MOTIVATIONS
The mission of this International
Conference Series on Mesoscopic Methods
in Engineering and Science is to bring researchers and practitioners in various
engineering and scientific fields to focus on the emerging
methods based on mesoscopic theory. Notable examples include
the Lattice Gas Cellular Automata (LGCA), the Lattice Boltzmann
Equation (LBE), the Discrete Velocity Models (DVM), the Gas-Kinetic
Scheme (GKS), and the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH).
Although these methods are sometimes designed for macroscopic
hydrodynamics, they are not based upon macroscopic equations
like the Navier-Stokes equations; instead, they are closely
related to kinetic theory and the Blotzmann equation. These
methods are promising candidates to effectively connect microscopic
and macroscopic physics and thereby substantially extend our
analytical and computational capabilities. In order to entice
people in China, Japan, South Korea, India and Southeast Asia
to participate in these activities, the International Organization
Committee deems it appropriate to move the venue to make the
conference more accessible to people from this part of the
world. This is the reason why the conference site is chosen
in Hong Kong this year. Hong Kong is a cosmopolitan city with
lots to offer visitors, especially its cuisine which is famous
the world over. The first conference was held in Germany, we
in Hong Kong are proud to host the second conference and look
forward to making your stay a memorable one.
